Williams was the name in peep sites for more years than i can remember. I haven't looked at any in quite a while as I can't see good enough anymore to use open sites. But Lyman and Williams were the go to peeps. Williams IMO was far better than Lyman.

I have these sights on a Marlin 1894C 357 Mag http://www.midwayusa.com/product/799753/williams-fp-336-set-receiver-peep-sight-with-front-fire-sight-marlin-336-1894-installs-at-rear-scope-mounting-holes-aluminum-black and I like them better than the 5D's.

Yes, you can use the hood, but I don't because with my old eyes I want that front sight to gather as much available light as is possible. Or when you order the sight order the sight hood with the open top as well. I believe that hood is actually for one of the Marlin .22 rifles, but it will fit your front sight ramp. I know because I did and it does work, but I didn't use it because as I said I want all the light I can get on that front sight.
The FP sight is a better design with adjustments that have lock screws on them and they are click adjustable.
Good luck!

Hey Dart, one thing I forgot to mention, you do realize that front sight has to be fitted to your ramp dovetail? Pretty simple fit actually... If you order the sight set and don't know how to fit it let me know and I will try my best to explain how to fit it to you.

No not usually unless the ramp dovetail is oversize. This video should help you understand the fitting process.
When driving the front sight out drive it from right to left with the muzzle pointed away from you and put something under the ramp to support it because Marlin ramps have tiny screws holding them on and have been known to shear the screws. When installing the new front sight drive it left to right with the muzzle pointed away from you.

Okay then, if you have an understanding of how to fit the sight then you're halfway done before you begin. Just remember to only remove a small amount of metal at a time and try the part. Don't forget when driving the old sight off and/or the new sight on to put something like a toothbrush handle or a small block of wood under the ramp to give it support.
Good luck with your new project.
