Affordable scopes that work?
At the first of the year I'll be looking to get a new scope.
Preferences:
1) at least 44mm objective
2) side focus
3) at least up to 20x zoom (I like to see what I am shooting at)
4) non-illuminated
I shoot more at paper than hunting nowadays...so I am looking at this more for target shooting than for hunting.
I have looked at a bunch, but not set on anything. Natchez has been running a good deal on Nitrex scopes. The also have a factory rebate that makes them even more tempting.
Nitrex(by Weaver) 4-20x50
I was once set on getting a Mueller target scope....but got side tracked into something else.
Mueller 8-32x44
I am thinking in the $300 ball park...maybe a little more if it that's what it takes to get a dependable scope.
I don't even bother looking at scopes that I cannot pronounce correctly...I'll leave them expensive suckers to the guy's that don't have to work for a living.
I added the Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40sf to the list.

Closest thing I can think of is the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 which is in the 350-360 range.

Re: Affordable scopes that work?
I've got a bushnell trophy that isn't half bad. I think it was a cheapo though ($120 ish). It came on a rifle I purchased. 3-9 X ~40.
The above posts are helpful to me. Thanks!
I will be buying a high powered rifle and I need to find a good scope that is under $400.
Great thread

Re: Affordable scopes that work?
Thanks for the input guy's... The Nikon is reeeaaaallly tempting.
I think I will go with the Mueller 8-32x44 and a DNZ Dednutz Base/rings.
I haven't found any bad reviews on the Mueller and it has all the features I want.
If I really like it, I might get another to replace the BSA 8-32x44 Platinum scope I have on my AR15. Everyone said the BSA was crap....but for a used scope I picked up out of a box of crap I purchased....it has held up pretty good. The view can be a little blurry above 18x , but the bullets hit where I am aiming.
I hope the wife doesn't already have my tax check spent....

this may be a little late, but I know guys that are using optice from FM and Millett and are kicking but with them in competitions. They seem to hold up well and are around $200-250 in my neck of the woods.
Re: Affordable scopes that work?
you are not too late...nothing is set in stone until the money is sent.
I'll take a look at them...
