Re: Skinner press
someone else posted about this press about a year ago give or take. Looks like it would be a very accurate press. but I dont think it would be a very powerful press and looks pretty weak in the linkage if swaging is what you have in mind for it.

Re: Skinner press
No, I have no experience with one.
But I thought I post anyway since that thing looks pretty cool.
I posted a while back about other presses I thought looked interesting:

I notice the price on ebay is the same as the price on the web site: http://www.skinnerpress.com/ $190 + S&H

I notice the web site says "Bearing Bronze bushings to ensure a long life" So does it have bronze in the linkage somewhere and that is what is weak?Reload3006 wrote:looks pretty weak in the linkage

Re: Skinner press
i talked to DR. Skinner back in Dec. on the phone. he sold the sight business to another vendor and only makes the Re-loading press. he told me although it was a strong press for re-loading he did not design it for swaging due to the toggle linkage. he said he would look into re-designing it so it could also be used for swaging.

Re: Skinner press
That Skinner press looks a lot like this C&H Mod 33 press that is for sale on ebay

Re: Skinner press
The Skinner press is very strong. The linkage will not break under any reloading conditions. If it does, I will fix it for a lifetime. It is made of bar stock steel and drill rod. No cast parts which tend to fracture. Given that: it is not a swaging press. If you want a good swaging press you want one of Corbins. At least until I get around to making a swaging press.
