Testing 125gr and 208gr 300 Blackout's Empty Testing 125gr and 208gr 300 Blackout's

I had a chance to go shoot my Remmy SPS 300 Blackout today. I took a varying selection of loads with 125gr and with 208gr.

The 125's are Remington flat based Spire points. The 208's are Hornady Amax.

Most of the loads for the 125's are with LilGun powder ranging from 16gr to 17.5 and some with W296 powder at 17gr. The 208's I loaded from 7.5gr up to 9gr with Lilgun.

I shot the 125's all the way up to the highest load and didn't have any pressure signs...I really wasn't looking for accuracy today and was only shooting at about 50 yards. Most holes where touching on all loads...with a couple flyers mixed in. I feel once the case has been fire formed and if i would have annealed the cases first, groups would have been better.

With the 208's all I was looking for was staying sub sonic. My crony hasn't worked for years so we were trying to listen for the sonic crack. 9gr is right on the edge of subsonic....some seemed to have a crack, some didn't. 8.5gr would probably be a safe bet to stay subsonic in all temperatures.

I did happen to find this between the firing line and the target zone...I think it is from when I tagged the spring loaded handgun reaction target. Interesting how the AMAX petaled out like that...

I also tried a few test batches of 125gr subsonics using WST powder I worked up in Quickload... I think I was too reserved on the starting powder weight. the first 4 worked perfect, then I had one that stuck in the barrel right at the muzzle(it pushed out easy) and one that had two distinct sounds...the initial firing of the primer and then a delayed muzzle blast...not good, back to the drawing board on those. Embarassed

I have a little vid footage from my brothers back yard, I'll see if there is anything worthwhile to make a vid with.

Sounds like you have a good start on getting those dialed in. Glad you finally got a chance to send some of them down the pipe Smile
