G'Day People just came by some 86 grain hollow point 308 cal projectiles did a deal with a bloke that said he had some 308 projectile so swapped him 3kg of lead for them and when they turned up in the post they turn out to be 86 grain and look like pistol projectiles. The question is would these be safe to use in the 308 winchester or 30-30 with reduced loads of trail boss or full power loads thought they may work well on rabbits and foxes can't see there being a issue but don't want to stuff up my rifle.

I've never used anything as light as 86 but have used 110 grain a lot they work very well. I honestly can't see a problem with them as long as they are .308 in diameter.

Found load data for 86 gr bullets .309 dia is for 30 luger, .308 dia is for 30 mauser, if you drop to 85 gr. .309 dia is for 7.62 Tokarev and .308 dia is for 30 M1 carbine. Looks like you got the wrong bullet for your application. You may be able to work up a load just not sure where you would start.
