Re: 7mm-08 brass to .30cal?
yep you sure can I have taken 243 up to 308 and taken 308 down to 243 i have taken 270 up to 30-06. I don't do it anymore as I don't need to but I wanted to be able to say i did. I DID LOL yea you can do it with no ill effect just make sure you are careful not to put a 7mm08-308 in your 7mm. So if you do that make sure to mark the cases some how to avoid an unpleasant experience should you put a 308 in your 7mm 08

I think you have to anneal the brass first. Can anyone else verify that??

Re: 7mm-08 brass to .30cal?
Annealing isn't as important when sizing down as when sizing up. I tend to split the necks if I don't anneal when sizing up.
I would anneal all cases that are being resized or converted to a different caliber....they should be annealed anyway, if they have reloaded a few times.

IMO the best way is to get a cordless screw/drill gun get the socket adapter and get a socket that the brass will just slip in and out of. get a propane torch from the plumbing area of walmart. or something like it if you already have one. spin the case and heat it on the top neck area only until its cherry and then drop in in a bucket of water.

I polish them real good, then chuck them in drill using the Lee case trimmer shell holder. Then heat the shoulder and neck only with a propane torch until I get a slight blue hue or a light glow in the dark(doesn't take long) and then drop it into a box with a piece of fiberglass insulation it it. Some guys will drop in a bucket of water...but I heard you don't need to water quench.
Haha...3006 beat me too it

your right Hawcer you dont need to quench as nonferrous metal doesn't require it lol actually if it was steel it would make it harder n a preachers you know what. it just keeps things cooler and you can use them faster. if you have a place you can just drop them and let them air cool they will be just as soft.

Re: 7mm-08 brass to .30cal?
Na I never have done any annealing myself.
I plan on doing some here soon to try it out. Reading these posts, I see there are conflicting information and would like to get some clarification....
I see there is a vote for a cherry color and I see one for a hint of Blue. Now from what I have been told was that you did not want it to be cherry as that it becomes "dead" soft and is way too soft. That the ideal color was a hint of Blue...
I do know for a fact tho that ammosmith has made a video. If I am not mistaking, Mohunter has done a video??? Right Mo?? or did you just talk about it and post pictures of your socket set up??

you only want to be cherry on the neck not the shoulder it should draw down blue. If you anneal the shoulder it will collapse when you try to size it.

Re: 7mm-08 brass to .30cal?
Yea, that is the way I plan on doing it. I have some 270's that I believe will benifit from it. Then after I get some shooting done, the Grendel brass will go a round as well...
I hope all this information helps hughie out....
