Re: First gun?
kcatto, That's an awesome story!!! I wish I had been in that position of "you kill a deer with it, it's yours."
I love it when things work out that way!

Re: First gun?
Stevens 87D, . 22 semiauto rifle. Got in 1969 when Papaw died. Papaw used to shoot crows in the cornfield across the road with it. But he had to shoot from just inside the living room door since every time he walked out into the front yard with the rifle the crows would all fly away. They never flew away if he did not have the rifle. Crows are smart.
I still have the rifle.
I still have the rifle.

Why do reckon a feller would steal a Weatherby and a shotgun and leave an SKS?sdsviper wrote: His trailer got broken in and his shotgun and 300 wetherby was stolen. Never did touch my sks tho.

My very first gun was a Red Ryder BB gun I was 5. Then When I was 7 I got a Ithaca 22lr lever action single shot I dont remember the model number but I loved that little gun.

Re: First gun?
My first gun I owned (other than several BB and pellet guns) was a Marlin 30/30 it was a Christmas present under the tree in 1988. It by far is not the first gun I shot or hunted with.
However the first gun I hunted with at age 12 was a 1903 Springfield that was sporterized. I have acuired that gun in 2002. It was my dads and he said its yours now, You shot your bear at age 12 with it so it means more to you that it will ever mean to me.
The first pistol I ever bought was a Crown City 1911 in Stainless Steel not long after I turned 21. I traded that back to the shop I bought it at for a Colt 1911, just because I wanted a Colt

Re: First gun?
Had bb guns of course but first firearm I owned was a Belgium made Browning 20 ga when I was about 12. Dad had bought it for Mom and she didn't use it so I got it. Hunted with it several years and decided that I needed a 12 ga cause I wanted a "real" gun so I swapped it for a Rem 1100 in almost new condition. I'm still kicking myself about that one. I hit the old boy up about buying it back about once a year and each year receive a prompt "NO!" That is one of life's lessons I wish Dad had chosen to teach me with almost anything else other than the browning.

Re: First gun?
My dad did the same exact thing with a Browning Belgium mad Sweet 16.
He traded it to his younger brother for a 20ga. and a MEC shotshell reloader. He's tried to get it back several times and his brother won't hear of it. Of course not, they are worth about 3K at the moment for one in pristine condition.......which this one so happens to be.
I've learned lessons like that the hard way before and I'm much, much more cautious now. I try to think of every scenerio where it could come back and bite me in the arse before I turn loose of anything of significant value. Even then I will think it over and sleep on it for a couple of weeks before I ever turn loose of something, especially a firearm.
Rule #1..........Never, ever take a gun to a pawn shop! You'll get screwed every single time.
