Resizing 204 Ruger to 223...
Anyone tried it?
I resized and trimmed the necks of 10(range found) 204 ruger cases to 223 rem. A converted 204 case has less capacity then that of the 223 and weighs about 8gr more(thicker case walls). I did some calculating and reduced the charges for the converted cases about 10%.
I will try to get to the range tomorrow and compare them. I will be testing out some 52gr Hornady A-max in both the 223 and the converted 204 cases.
Should be interesting...

Just to be safe, you should go out and buy a 204. That way you don't have to resize.

Re: Resizing 204 Ruger to 223...
Yeah...I was wondering when I was gonna hear some flack on converting 204's to 223.
I have had ten 204 cases laying around for about a year that I picked up at the range and I only converted them for pure expiremental purposes.
And here are the range results....
Range = 100yrds
wind = light breeze, with about 15pmh gusts
Rifle = Savage 12fv 223 with Mueller 8-32x44 target scope
Ammo = 52gr A-max w/ 26gr of Varget, 69gr smk w/ 25gr of Varget and 52gr A-max w/ 24gr of Varget in the converted 204 cases.
Groups = five shots
Rifle was rested on a bipod and rear bag only
No scope adjustments were made at all today...they are the same as they were the last time I shot it and remained the same when we left today.
The first two targets are comparison between the 52gr A-max in 223 cases and converted 204 cases. Not too much difference...except a savings in 2 grains of powder. These cases were also fire formed on this first trip...
The next three targets are my 16 year old sons groups.
And the real kick in the pants....My nine year old wanted to try the bolt action....of course the lop is way too much for his small frame and he only took these three shots.
I've come to the conclusion...If I need to test the accuracy of my ammo or my rifle....I'll just hand the stuff over to my kids,LOL.

Not bad at all ! Did you check the velocity on the converted cases? Wonder how much it slowed them down by using less powder--
When my boy started shooting better than me, I just blamed it on my eyes going bad and hadn't changed the spectacles in several years. He believed me for a month or so

Re: Resizing 204 Ruger to 223...
My chrony has been toast for awhile now....So I didn't get any velocity comparisons. I definitely need to be looking into getting a new chrony this year.
But seeing how the poi was within a 1/2 of poa on both targets....I would assume the velocity wasn't to much different between the two....but I know I'm wrong
That is why I brought along the 69gr smk's.....I know how they shoot. and I know they are a slower fps than the 52gr a-max....but they had roughly the same poi too. I expected the 69's to be right on poa and the 52's to land higher than poa. not really the results I ended up with. So I do need a chrony to see whats really going on.
Kinda nice to have 2 different loads and two different bullet types that will shoot almost the same at 100 yards.....like I said, I didn't make one scope adjustment all day.
For the heck of it...I'll put these loads into QL and see what the differences fps it kicks out.

Re: Resizing 204 Ruger to 223...
I dumped all the info in Quick load....
Here are the calculated fps data it kicked out :
52gr A-max in 223 case, 26gr of Varget= 3312fps
52gr A-max in converted 204 case, 24gr of Varget = 3162fps
69gr SMK 223 with 25gr of varget = 3093
Pretty close velocities there...
