Re: Going back to traditional
Well I got to shoot it this morning. Since I am leaving to go on a hunt this weekend I did not have any time to work up loads for this gun. So I took two minimum loads I use to use in my Rem 700 and took those to get the gun sighted in. I used 40 gr of XBR8208 under a 150 Sierra SP and the 168gr Nosler BT. I only did three shot groups since I had to have some ammo left over to hunt with but here are the results. Let's say so far the new Savage is my go to rifle.
Here is the group for the 150gr Sierra SP and it measured .956", so about an inch. (my finger is covering up two other shots from my bore sighting session)
Here is the group for the 168gr NBT and it measured .677".

Re: Going back to traditional
imagine what you will get when you sit down and actually work up a load for it!!!
Heck, I may have to sell my Remington 700 and go with a Savage for sure now LOL...

Re: Going back to traditional
...and now you know why Savage rifle prices have sky rocketed in the past 5 years.
Is that with the factory package scope...or one of you own better ones?
Excellent groups regardless for the first time out to the range.
The next rifle on my list is a Savage 308....now that you confirmed they are a shooter like my other savages, I'm gonna have to put a rush on that order, lol.
One other thing...Did you play with the trigger any? My 243 was adjusted about midrange from the factory and my 223 varmint was adjust all the way to the lightest setting from the factory. For target work...the lighter the better. But for out in the field....you might want to stay in the middle to upper end so the trigger doesn't activate if bumped. It won't fire...but you'll have to cycle the bolt to reset the trigger.....that could be a bummer when you have a big buck in your crosshairs.

The scope on it is a Leupold VX-II that I already had. I have not played with the trigger yet, but might bump it down just a tad.
