CVA APEX, 300win mag, 253yd is what the ranger finder showed, quartering away I hit just back of the last rib and a little high came out the off shoulder (dropped like a rock). Barnes 165gr (factory ammo Embarassed ) 300 win mag is a new cal for me so have not started reloading for it.

That buck has lots of character, just what I like to see.

Congrats on a good buck.

Our statewide bear season opened on the 17th and it was the only day I got to go, let me say I got really pumped with the trip up state. We were just pulling into camp and saw a nice smaller buck right next to camp. Then sunday we went around checking all the stands, and jumped a great 10 pointer. There was a ton of buck rubs and real good signs.

That's a Thumper! Great job SDS. I'm green with envy! greenwithenvy

I hope you saved the head and not just the antlers? If you don't have the money for a full head mount I'd gladly do a skull mount (European Style) for ya. Wouldn't charge you a dime for it.

Mohunter, do you use the bugs (beetles I think) to do the European mounts?
My neighbor had a friend of his do one for him, and he somehow cracked the antlers while cooking it or whatever he did (i didn't ask as it was a sore subject) The neighbor wanted to get it mounted but didn't have the money for it, and I offered to loan him the down payment he needed.

If you don't mind me asking how do you do your European mounts?

Very Happy Thanks for the offer but just saved the rack money is a little tight the restaurant business is not very good the gas prices coming down helped but still a long way to go.

Bummer, sure wish you had the whole head. Only takes about 3-4 days for me to complete a skull mount.
Things are tight up here as well, hopefully it will get better soon.
