Rookie mistake...

Was priming some .223 cases this evening using my Lee Autoprime. I'm usually attentive and meticulous, but somehow managed to get a primer inserted into a case upside-down, luckily without incident. First time this has happened to me!

Planning on leaving the case on a shelf over my reloading bench as a shameful reminder. But, should it happen again, anyone have tips on how to safely remove the mistake?

Put some safety glasses on, and SLOWLY deprime the case. =)

Yup, safety glasses and deprime cafefully. I think we've all done this a time or 2.

Yup, been there and done that several times. As stated above, safety glasses and proceed slowly should work fine, but if you get too worried about doing it that way just fill up the open end of the primer with WD-40 and let it sit overnight. Then put on the safety glasses and deprime slowly and you should be fine.

I initially though about using the resizing/depriming die, but wanted to check first.

but people have deprimed using water and a resizing die ...


However you do it , put on your safety glasses ,and if you can "film it"

No biggie...it won't take much to knock it back out. Just go slow and easy. Sooner or later it's going to happen, I've had them flip over and sideways...it seems to happen more often on press mounted priming systems.

Iv done this several times done it yesterday as a matter of fact just go slow and easy iv never set one off just go slow

I too have done this. If you have a Lee universal depriming die (the one that goes in the press) try using it. If for some reason the primer does go off you will have a small gap to release some of the pressure. And as everyone else has mentioned, go slow.
