The Wife's New Toy
And no guys, nothing like that LOL......
So, while I got my Ruger SR9c, the wife finally decided that she wants to start carrying as soon as her conceal permit comes in the mail. We have talked about this in the past, and today just seemed to be the right day to give her that nudge to go through with it. As much as she loves that hi point 45, excellent shooter, very dependable, accurate as heck. Really wouldn't need a different firearm. The problem I see with it, it is the bobble head of all handguns. I think after a bit, she would get tired of carrying that thing either on her hip or in her purse.
She agreed and today she looked around and expressed interest in 3 handguns. A Taurus TCP in 380, A Rock Island 1911 compact, or a Smith and Wesson SD40 Compact.
Well the Taurus did not make the cut right off the bat.
Now she is debating between the Rock Island and the S&W SD40. I told her I was not going to step in and persuade her in any way. I wanted this to be her decision. I did give her a couple pointers, check out the sites, the weight, mag compacity. With that I stepped away until she made up her mind...
The only thing that kept her from the Rock Island 1911 Compact, was the site blades were really tiny and did not give her good site picture like the Smith and Wesson...
I do have to say, I am pretty proud of her for this....

I have thousand upon thousands of 40 brass LOL..... I won't be making 44 mag jacketed bullets now that I don't own a 44 mag LOL so we have plenty for now. My thinking is, the brass I load for her, as soon as they are not shootable, back into jacket making pile.....

Re: The Wife's New Toy
She's way better off with the 40 anyway, much more knock down power than a 380 and probably not a whole lot more kick? For personal carry defense I would want my wife packing a 40cal. over a 380 anyday.

That is defenitly one of the toys mom has that I would not mind getting cought with. Hope you get to sneak it into the range bag and play with it. For some reason I think she got the better end of the deal.

Re: The Wife's New Toy
I have yet to find a 380 that was comfortable, my big hands don't like the crampt feeling and the snappy-ness of the 380's i've shot... that being said, I've drooled over 1903s long enough to know i'll get one at some point but that's a different class of 380 if you ask me, and no i havent shot one yet so i might not like the feel but they're gorgeous to me...
ramble ramble ramble,
+1 on the 40, more thump on impact and more comfortable to thump stuff with! congrats to Mrs Daywalker!

Re: The Wife's New Toy
not to hijack but no, not bersa but the Daewoo clone, same thing i figure, and the ppk, and other PPK clones ive shot.
lots of guys used to buy their wives the ppk thinking that the smaller cartridge would be better for them but the damn thing hurts to shoot after a while they're so snappy, the type of action and tall bore axis had something to do with it im told... and turned quite a few women off to the sport.
i dunno, maybe i'd like the bersa, havent shot it. I kinda just figured on staying away from the cartridge myself, less troubleshooting for me.
i'm glad mrs daywalker has a 40.

Yep, she got her 40 and I still have my 45. The Ruger 9 I got was to switch up away from the hi point to have something different. Heck, I did not go with the idea for buying anything, it just happened.
I don't mind coming home "short handed". I did tell her how proud I was of her for making a good choice. I think I may have never said anything like that to her as she seemed shocked and the biggest smile I had ever seen came about.. Something to think about I guess...
Now as I am typing this, I have a boy sitting next to me that needs an attitude adjustment he just told me it kinda lookes like a Glock.. Need to knock some sense into him LOL...

"Boy, that don't look like a tractor hood does it?" lol Sorry, that just popped in my head when I read the last couple of lines of your reply. I have a buddy that said Glocks look like the hood off of a old 8N Ford tractor and now everytime I see one that's what I think of.

Now she can protect him from the zombies, chupacabre, and the ever elusive black panther.

It would be great to know how that gun stacks up to the M&P and Sigma series. It really seems like a marketing model fitting between the two. I’d like to try one out some time.

That I could not tell ya. I have not shot either of the M&P or a Sigma series.. It is a nice looking firearm and feels great. We were going to try to go this coming weekend to fire it, but it seems that bad weather is once again in the mix... We still might be able to make it out there tho...
