Yea the 44's that I swaged, did the same thing. I did not anneal my cases, yet annealing may have helped. A good punch made in an x form like XTP's may help with creating an area for expansion like a petal.... Or a bigger lead nose half jacket like.....

I will have to anneal a batch and give them a try. I also have a few ideas on "pre-weakening" the jacket too.
Personally, I think they would work great against hogs or deer just the way they are. Massive penetration and even with light expansion...that's still a larger diameter projectile than what most rifle bullets will expand to.
....somewhere I read, when you get up to around the 45 caliber area...a larger diameter and heavier projectile can work equally as well as massive expansion from a smaller caliber, and retain more of it's weight.

Oh yea no doubt. What expansion they do make, with that jagged edge, they will do the job as is.....

I just had a revelation.....not really, just an idea.
I might try to anneal only half the jacket....hoping to get a bit more expansion, but still retain alot of the weight in the lower half of the bullet. A cannelure can help serve the same purpose...or so I've read.
