Tula Black box 223
I tried to find the thread we had that discussed some questions on the Tula Black box ammo found at wally world....no luck, so I'll post my findings here.
I was given 5 boxes of the Tula steel cased 223 ammo for Christmas from a friend and finally got around to using some of it for close range shooting.
I DO NOT recommend this stuff for a auto loading rifle. It would not cycle my AR-15 completely. It would eject the spent round but didn't have enough energy to cycle the bolt far enough rearward to strip off and chamber the next round.
3 out of 20 rounds did cycle correctly....not good in my opinion. Possibly better luck in a carbine? Not worth a hoot in my 24" upper....accuracy is decent at the 25 to 30 yards We were shooting. Would work in a bolt rifle....but I won't shoot this crap through mine,LOL.
Spend the extra 2 or 3 bucks and get some 5.56 Federal for plinking....leave the Tula on the shelf....

I think you would have just as much trouble with a carbine set up. Yes the carbine will have more gas pressure pushing the bolt carrier group back but a carbine will have a heavier buffer and spring to slow the system down then a rifle length gas system.

I am the oddball LOL, I did not have ammo and wanted to go to the range. The wife picked me up 4 boxes of that Tula for my stag ar which is a carbine, 16", I had not problem shooting them. No jams or anything. I just don't like shooting steel cases so I never bought anymore and prob won't either unless I am really really desperate.
This was a few months ago. Just one of them things, luck of the draw maybe?

Just so you guys know the TULA brand is wolf ammo.... wolf was getting such a bad reputation in some circles that why not make another brand... from what I have been told from a distributor same ammo different name and box... So if you like wolf you will like Tula ammo

I'll prolly pull the bullets on the rest of them and handload them into brass cases, at least they will be more reliable.
I have some other oddball 55gr 223 ammo that a guy gave me that are hard to chamber( neck sized only I'm guessing)....I will pull these bullets at the same time.

I never had problems like that but however was not accurate in the least. I could not hold a 5 shot group within 3" at 100 yards.
Needless to say I did not even get through a whole box of 20.

I have used this ammo in my Mini 14 without experiencing any problems. I actually bought a 1000 rounds back in December because my local gun shop was selling the case for $210. I'm hoarding it to use for bartering after the economy collapses
Will agree the accuracy is not so great beyond 50yds.
It is also really dirty.
