Refinishing an old safe
I picked up an old safe that works great but needs refinished. It was probably made back in the 30's and is all steel with a 4 number combination lock. This sucker must way around 400lbs and is only about 2'x2'x2'. What would be a good paint to refinish it in? It will need to be something durable and long wearing(rustolium?)....it was originally a grayish color, but I think black will look good.
I haven't decided what I'll use it for yet(handguns,ammo,???)....I just like the old school look and coolness factor of it.

Back years ago when I worked in a Locksmith shop we used to use that Crinkle paint in various colors .. it had a good look and it hid the holes we had to drill to open the safes that people forgot the combination to or screwed up trying to change the combo

Thanks Reload...crinkle paint would be a good choice and finish. Do you recommend any certain brand?

Re: Refinishing an old safe
I took the door and hinges off last night....now I have to start stripping.
Well...I went with black/gray splatter paint. it was available locally and is supposed to be a heavy duty finish.
After I get the old paint stripped off and do some light sanding, I'm going to coat it with rust killer spray, then self etching primer...then a few coats of the splatter paint. I might even trim the interior with a light carpet.
