Recoil Pads
I'm in the market for a recoil pad for my Remington Model 700, I talked to Limbsaver and they said I would have would have to grind down the back of my stock so it would be straight to accept a screw on pad. The reviews I've seen on Remington SuperCell is they don't fit very well. So does anyone here have any suggestions?

Re: Recoil Pads
Isn't the back of your stock already flat?
I do like the Sims vibration lab recoil pad that I have on my Browning A-bolt.
So comfy and soft.

Re: Recoil Pads
I have used several different recoil pads.
I like the Pachmayr recoil pads, and have some slip on pads.
I used my compound miter saw to square the butt of my Ruger 77 LA (old school tang safety) 7mm Mag to fit a Pachmayr pad on the factory stock. The previous owner showed this rifle no love and it still needs a new barrel and refinishing. I think the previous owner had never heard of cleaning a rifle or let it rattle around in the bed of his truck.
I was refinishing the stock anyway along with a glass & pillar bedding job so when I hit the (blankity, blankity) stock with the belt sander was not so big a deal.
I managed to smooth it enough that most people (other than me) can't see the mistakes. Had I gone with a high gloss poly finish, would have been worse. I chose a more sedate tung oil finish with a satin poly coating for water resistance.
I have a Marlin 1895 45-70 GS (old style before porting) that wallops the crap out of me. Since I cannot afford at the moment to send it to either get ported or a muzzle break installed, I am looking for a slip on pad for it.

Re: Recoil Pads
Do you know if those slip on pads are still on the market and affordable? The ones you see in stores now are four more times expensive.

Re: Recoil Pads
I have not found one that fits my Marlin 1895 GS well. Most of them slip too much or make the length of pull too long to shoot the rifle well.
I just have to get mine to my gunsmith to fit a better pad on it.
