Swage press on a budget? Empty Swage press on a budget?

Post by Stealthshooter Fri Oct 28, 2011 10:02 pm

Hey guys!

I have an RCBS JR3 press that I have been swaging with but it doesn't seem to have much for leverage. What it the best press I can get but not break the bank?

I think that some of the guys here use the RCBS RockChucker press to do some swaging with. I can't speak from experience though. I would love to have one of them myself Smile

I swage with my rockchucker. but I am not using CH4D dies ... I know that Daywalker uses a rockchucker too but he had a large handle put on his press. I am using the Dr. Blackmon dies on my rockchucker and I have not needed more leverage as I have broken a core swage die and a core seat die with just my standard press handle. I also have a jr press but I know my rockchucker has a lot more leverage.

Swage press on a budget? Empty rockchucker

Post by ar3006 Tue Jan 31, 2012 5:08 pm

I just pickup a rcbs rockchucker off e-bay, date on the press 1979, with a one inch ram, i have been useing a Lyman Sparton press for reloading and swaging, the first time i used the rockchucker to swage you could have knocked me over wiht a fether.
the ease of operation was outstanding, easy to use and made great bullets

I have ordered a set of dies for 223, with the die to make 223 from 22lr, all from DR Blackmon.

He told me it will be some time befor he can make my order as he has a big back log.

Sure happy i found my way here with all the reloading and swaging information in one place.

I use two 40 yr old RockChuckers, bought new. for reloading and swaging with C-H and SAS dies. I recently bought a Lee Classic Cast and in stock form doesn't
have as much leverage as the RCBC's. You can change the leverage on the Lee by moving the pivot point on the linkage and I might do that as it's pretty much useless in it's present form, as a swaging press.
