Post by RemMan700 Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:20 am

Has anyone tried push gutting on a rabbit? It looks like it works like a champ.

My family calls it "Indian Gutting". I had seen it done years ago by my Uncle. I tried it for the first time a couple months ago and it worked great.

It works good! Especially when you have to tote around a half dozen or so Cane Cutters ( some folks call them swamp rabbits ) half of the morning Smile

We used to do it the same way, only instead of pushing it on your thigh, we would slam the rabbit down between your legs and let your arms hit your thighs to shoot the guts out. This way looks better, because you can end up slinging the guts up onto your back doing it the way I was taught.

My first ever rabbit kill, I went along with some really back in the woods folks, and the guy walked over, picked up the rabbit and squeezed starting from around the upper portion of the rabbit and pushed all the internals out... I was like, uuuuhhhhhh holy cow..... Yea, seen it and it works. Not sure if I could do it. Only hunted rabbits that one time. Come to think of it, they kept that rabbit and I never did get to eat any of it!!!!
