38/357 differences for Square Deal B?
Hello, I am new to reloading, Really liked ATGRELOADING's squaredeal b youtube tutorial (the best I have seen). I just ordered a dillon square deal b. One reason was because it was supposedly "preset at the factory" (whatever that means.) Anyhow a friend said he was looking at a dillion square deal b and the seller indicated he would dial it in for either the 38/or 357 for the buyer. Question? what does he mean by this statement? Is there some setting difference between the 38 special and the 357? What gets changed? How do you do it?
Thanks TexasTed

Being that the 357 is a longer case the dies will need to be backed out as opposed to the setting for 38spl.
As far as the dies for the caliber, they are the same between 38 and 357. RCBS and others sell spacers that you can install between the die lock ring and press so you don't have to adjust your dies these spacers are for all dies except Dillon sdb, they may have there own spacers. I'm not real familiar with the sdb dies (other than they only fit the sdb press) he may either be adjusting the dies or spacing them accordingly if in fact Dillon makes such a spacer.

That is true for most presses but not for the square deal. The Square deal B is a press unto its self and only uses Square deal dies. The bullet seating die and the powder die will have to be raised up for 357 and lowered for 38spl the and the crimp die will have to be compensated for that is done but the tool head allowing the dies to raise uptripples wrote:Being that the 357 is a longer case the dies will need to be backed out as opposed to the setting for 38spl.

Reload, I edited my first post to make it more clear about the dies. I do know that Dillon sdb dies will not fit a standard 7/8x14 thread press and Dillon sdb press will not accept standard 7/8x14 dies.
Can you look over my edited post and see if it is clear? The last thing I want to do is confuse or mislead an undereducated person or someone who is just getting started in reloading about weather or not they can get spacers to move the dies up.

Re: 38/357 differences for Square Deal B?
All great information given. I have not bought my dies for the caliber stated as of yet. I would love to do a video showing what others have explained. Just a simple reset of the dies for the caliber. Lower the dies for the special, raise the dies for the magnum. When you purchase the press new, Dillon will install the dies so that the press is out of the box ready aka, preset. They even load a dead round for you to examen. Hope all of the information given so far from everyone helps. Keep asking, we are glad to lend a hand friend.

I think my RCBS 38/357 dies came with a spacer to screw on for just that reason...I'll have to look.

Yes, RCBS dies use a spacer to raise the dies for 357 mag.

It is easy to make your own spacer. I made one out of a flat washer.
