Here is a starter list for an Everyday Carry (EDC) Bag. While some items can be used in a defensive situation, it is primarily used in case of an auto emergency (car accident or getting stranded).

A couple weeks ago my sister watched a driver fall asleep at the wheel, crash his car and get ejected across 3 lanes of traffic at 1am. She was the first and only person on the scene for 10 minutes!

Here is another list I have for a "Roadside Emergency Kit", I think I got this from an Auto-insurance company.

12-foot jumper cables
Four 15-minute roadside flares
Gallon of antifreeze
First aid kit (including an assortment of bandages, gauze, adhesive tape, antiseptic cream, instant ice and heat compresses, scissors and aspirin)
Blanket
Extra fuses
Flashlight and extra batteries
Flat head screwdrivers
Phillips head screwdrivers
Pliers
Vise Grips
Adjustable wrench
Tire inflator (such as a Fix-A-Flat)
Tire pressure gauge
Rags
Roll of duct tape
Spray bottle with washer fluid
Pocketknife
Ice scraper
Pen and paper
Help sign
Bottled water
heavy-duty nylon bag
disposable camera

That first one sounds like a good bugout kit?

Only thing I would add to that one is ketchup and salt n pepper for the game you are going to be killin' and grillin' tongue ccharactor albino

Oh and a length of monofilament, small fish hooks, some weights, and maybe a small bag of Berkely power bait. Because there's a good chance you will end up near water of some kind that has fish in it, and wild game may not always be in abundance.

not necessarily hiking, but yeah to keep in your vehicle for a trip would be a good idea.

check out my other topic for Bug Out Bag. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

This is for storing in your vehicle for everyday emergencies. Auto accidents, getting stranded on the road, someone getting hurt, natural disaster, etc etc.

I think you meant to list Maxipads dude. Besides the obvious Tampons are only good for nose bleeds. Laughing

the benefit of a vehicle born bob/embag is that you don't have to worry so much about wt. mine has an axe, chain, an old jibsheet(high breaking strenght line), shovel, essential barebones tool kit( a tackle box i gutted and threw wrench sets, socket sets, pliers, dikes, diamond stone and screwdrivers in), fuses, enough oil for a change + filter, "come-a-long," sleeping bag, hand warmer + fluid, fire starting stuff, water, some binos and some uscg approved E-rats... there's a large first aid kit under the seat, always either a filet knife or pocket knife somwhere and probably lots of change in the crack of the seat LOL
... when i want to go camping, i just grab a tent, backpack of clothes and a cooler and go
