10/22 Buffers

I have seen ads for the 10/22 buffers, many different materials. Has anyone tried these yet and what material type are you using?

I have never used one but I doubt it would make that much of a difference.

I've never used them. it might come in handy if always using CCI's stingers. It also creates another step in disassembly/assembly.

I use them in the 2 10/22's I have but they have a lot of aftermarket parts in them. The ones I use are the polyurethane material. I have used the more rubbery feeling ones before but they changed the timing to much and caused cycling problems. If I were looking for them now I would get the hardest polyurethane ones I could find. The gun it's self don't really need them they were originally meant to be used in guns with suppressors to get rid of the ping sound the bolt makes when it hits the steel pin but are also useful for fixing timing issues with guns that have after market recoil springs and over-sized charging handles.

I use one of the harder poly recoil buffers in my 10-22. I had the bolt polished and radiused, and it seemed to smack the bolt more than before even using "regular" dime store cheap ammo.

I have never fired mine with a suppressor but I really want to, not sure about the "ping" noise but would be interesting to find out.

While I have aftermarket recoil springs and an enlarged charging handle I have never had any timing problems even with new TacSol barrel and refurbished bolt.

I dislike metal on metal contact in my firearms, so I use the recoil buffer even if I might not have to. I think it is good insurance when I shoot hotter ammo like the Stingers. I have never had a timing issue and since bolt refurb has been done, not a single FTF in 238 rounds (I am keeping count).

I got my buffer from Midway, but I have not heard bad things about some of the buffers on Fleabay.
