What to Do.
Building Gas piston AR 15
Guy's; I need your advice. I'm looking into building a AR15 M4 with a gas piston upper,it look's like it is going to be a little bit over a grand eather way I go . I'v looked at Brownell's parts kit and at Stag Arms new M8 complete gun. Both are around $1045 -$1200. What to do?
I just need a little push in the right direction

Well the stag is done...so nothing to build. No special tools needed either.
Building your own from a kit gives you more options to build to your own personal tastes.
So....if I was going to build one from a kit and have it look just like the Stag...I'd just buy the Stag if the money is the same.

I would just buy the complete Stag as it will have a full warranty.

Re: Building Gas piston AR 15
I love the stag. I own a stag myself. Not a piston however and have thought about getting one once I get the other guns that I want first.
Now, I also think that for a person who is going to own an ar, especially a first timer, and not sure if you have one already or not, I would like to think that building your first one is the way to go and this is my reason for it...
It looks very intimidating to build one. Once you start the build, you will see that it is very easy to do. I have not built an upper yet, I know Hawcer has, however, by building one yourself, you will know your ar inside and out. If you run into any problems on the range, you will have an understanding of how your ar works and you may be able to fix it much quicker..
That is just me. On the other hand, Buy your first AR already built, get used to it. You can take it down and all of that as well. Then, when your ready, build your next one. Yea, I said your next one, you won't be able to stop at just one AR
Ok I prob was not much help was I?

I really looking hard at the Stag M8 with a lifetime warranty you cant beat it. But in the same respect it would be fun to put a gun togeather out of a bag if you know what I mean. Thanks guy's
As someone once said to many gun's and not enough money.

ah, you will have to upload the picture to a host site, like photobucket or tinypic, then copy the img code and paste the code directly into the post.
I will have a tutorial up soon on how to do this...

Ok I have to edit, the pic did not show up large enough to read. I am going to reupload and this will be very graphic and large print. But, it should help you to post pics when you want...
Ok Glenn, hopefully this helps. I suck at explaining in type so if I have to, I can do a short vid and show it while being done. Here are the large print easier to read step by step using www.tinypic.com as the hosting companie for pics. I can not host from this site as I do not have enough storage space to house the photos. Nor does forumotion gives the option. They are looking at it possibly down the road.

I would buy factory with a piston gun since there is always the possibility that you could have carrier tilt problems occur. So there it would be better to let stag fix that on their dime. If you want a project to build on your own I would build just a regular DI gun in the future.

Re: Building Gas piston AR 15
No matter how you look at it, If you are going to use the piston system it is going to be near the $1000 mark easy. The piston system alone is in the $350 area.
Me, I like to build them, my way the first time so it is my weapon and not a clone of what someone thinks should be there. It can be a source of great satisfaction or a total headache, but that's what custom building is all about.
Quality parts = quality gun
