load for my 180 home swaged
well I have a lot of IMR 4350 I am thinking about starting with about 54.0 gr and working up 1 grain at a time to 56. 56.5 is max doing 5 shot groups and see what they do shoot five clean shoot five more. .. what do y'all think what is your go to load I need to know soon LOL so I can stop at grafs and get a pound of powder if 4350 isnt my best bet for these 180 grain bullets. LMAO For 30-06 i guess it would help to know what round.

in my years of reloading, caliber is a very important part to the equation

Re: load for my 180 home swaged
I've never used 4350...
I used to use 4895 for 30-06, but have since changed to Varget....since I use Varget in about everything else for rifles and Varget is very similar to 4895. I think it only requires around 46gr of Varget in 30-06. But then again, I've never loaded anything heavier than 168gr either.
That's about a 10gr savings per round as compared to 4350.

Not sure about the heavier '06 round but I have had excellent results in 130 gr 270 loads.I normally use 52 gr IMR 4895 for 150gr '06. It's a little light but I seem to get better groups from the Rem. 742

Re: load for my 180 home swaged
well my step daughter is graduating in MI this weekend so the wife is up there and has the camera. and VCR LOL all I have is my cell phone we will see what kind of pics i can get with that.
any way since I only have a little less than a pound of varget and I personally believe its too fast for 180gr 06 and I have like 6 ish pounds left in a 8lb can of IMR4350 I went with 4350. I do have a pound of H414 if i don't get good results with the 4350 i will try that. and if that fails i will get a pound of 4895 and see what happens.
So I loaded up 5 at 53.0, and increased .5 grains to max at 56.5 I didn't sort the cases other than i made sure i didn't have any mil surp. cases. I am using CCI LR primer. I plan on doing a thorough cleaning of my Rem 700 30-06 Shoot five Clean shoot five etc and see what happens. More than target placement I will be looking for groups. I want a tight group no matter where it lands on the target. Once I have a consistent load found I will zero with that. and then beware Bambi I have something for your A#$

That sounds like a good plan. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that your best group will be with 54.5 - 55 gr of 4350 lol! Use lighter ones on Bambi, save these 180's for Bambi's grand daddy It will be interesting to see how this one comes together.

Re: load for my 180 home swaged
well Cuss words .... I took the scope off of my 700 and put it on my savage 12 and i figured wtf and put a tasco on my 700 BAD IDEA. What a worthless POS well untill I can afford a NIKON for my 700 its not going to be used for anything. So I pulled out my Dads 742 because I know it has a good zero and is holding good. The next up was 53.5 they shot an ok group but Im not trusting that I had a good rest. I guess It will be up to John to see if these bullets are any good. That 700 was the closest thing I had to any kind of a target quality rifle in 30 cal.
