Grouping question
Got an interesting question. RemMan and myself have been discussing this and he has given me his theroy. He has the same problem. I think...
On my 6.5 Grendel, I get a real nice tight group at 100 yards. Here is the problem. I get the first 3 shots, touching. Almost, but not quite making one hole. The 4th shot will go to the left away a little bit and the 5th shot to the right.
I can shoot 5 shot groups all day long and get the exact same grouping.
What do you all think is going on?

Re: Grouping question
Strap it in a gun rest and see what it does. The shooter will be out of the equation that way.

Re: Grouping question
Since its happening with all the groups, I wonder if its heat related. How does it act if you were to let the barrel cool between shots?

Re: Grouping question
I second the heat theory. Next time wait an uncomfortably long time between shots. I never wait long enough because I feel awkward just sitting there, but when I force myself to do it, my groups get really tight.

Re: Grouping question
I think it could only be one of two variables. 1. Heat effecting harmonics or heat causing something to touch that does not when cold or 2. optics rattling around.

Re: Grouping question
I think it is mental anxiety. You are getting to the end of shooting your group and are stressing about it being perfect.

I'll put my nickle on heat ...
Pull the bolt and run a patch between every shot , and see if that 4th shot gets closer ...

Re: Grouping question
If that doesn't work, just go old fashioned and pee on it. That will cool it down.

Do you suggest on the barrel on down in the barrel? I am sure being careful as not to accidentally bump up against the burning hot barrel in the process right?

Re: Grouping question
Hmmm. Maybe a funnel inserted into the muzzle. That way you wouldn't get any surprises.
