Not sure on your preferences, but I am partial to the E Arthur Brown French Gray plating.

http://www.eabco.com/cssfg.html

It makes the rifle look like it is SS, and as far as I can tell, absolutely rust proof. Since I live in the soggy Pacific North West where everything either has moss growing on it, or it rusts, the French gray coating has been a great thing.

If it is too "shiny" for you, squirt it with some Krylon or Duracoat.

I just finished glass and pillar bedding my little Sako Vixen. I hope to get to the range to see if it helped in the next week or so.

I agree with Hawcer, it is your project make it for you and above all have fun.

You guys are killing me!

When I get done with her I guarantee that she will be like no other, and all mine. But since I have built literally dozens of rifles I am looking for fresh ideals. Otherwise, this one is going to be set for two different shooting styles with 2 totally different finishes and shot! ALOT!!

Plain Jane appearance is my expertise, wife says I have no coordinating skills when it comes to what looks good. That is why she is in charge of the looks of every gun that I make. If the customer doesn't choose, she does.

Ok since you guys are are not helping I had to go to someone else for build ideals. You guys are not going to believe this but you are in for a major surprise.

We are going to acid stain the wood to a jet black and engrave it with a few ancient symbols and fill them with either a gold lacquer or brass inlay. From there we are either going to apply a satin finish or a high gloss clear coat.

The metal will stay in its finish, we will be installing a target trigger and notch the extractor for snap over to be shot in single feed and not from a magazine. Then we will build a second stock along the same lines as the first except that it will have a single engraving on it and set it up as bolt action repeater.

So who is ready to work with me cause I have no ideal how to do what I just said that I'm going to do. Metal work, I can do, trigger is easy, normal wood inletting is a cinch. Acid blackening, I have no clue. Evgraving and filling, NO FRIGGIN IDEAL.

Alrighty then, lets get it done!

Here is an idea for ancient symbols. That Greek phrase that means "Come and get them." In our alphabet it looks like "Molon labe" In Greek it is μολὼν λαβέ!
Here is a short article about it.

That thought has crossed my mind. But it is on the slate for the next one. We are going even older, way older on one of them and a Nordic Viking Compass on the other.
