I got out to the Dike at 9 A.M. and the water was super clear and very calm. I figured I would not catch anything but then a storm rolled in. The wind hit hard and the waves started rolling in and the fish started to bite. I first caught two sheepshead then the big daddies started to come in and bite.

Oh and this is why you don't put your fingers into a sheepsheads mouth. They eat barnacles whith those chompers.

Very nice.

I've always wondered why they are called Sheepdshead though?

These are salt water fish. I am fishing off of Texas City Dike which is basically in Galveston Bay. The Drum, sheepshead, and whiting are all good to eat. Some people consider black drum to be a "trash" fish but they are not at all and are nothing like eating carp. The black drum is a close relative of the Red Drum/Red Fish and they taste exactly alike. The drum have to be 14-30" to keep and any bigger you have to throw back but you can keep one if it is over 52". That is a big fish and would probably be pretty tough.

We here in IN will catch carp early when the water is still cold. We take them and cold pack then can them with a little salt one tea spun of catch-up that gives then the look of pink Samoan. I like it better than the pink Samoan. By can the fish it is there when you need it.

THANKS Ben
