Trout Time!
Well Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. has a program where they stock city lakes and ponds with trout during the winter. I spoke to one of the guys that works for the city and he told me that they put 500lbs in the pond by my house. So if you take 500lbs and divide it by 1700 (the # of fish they put in) your average fish is a little over a quarter pound, but he told me there were some that were 1-1.5 lbs. They are fun to catch and pretty tasty little fish. I didn't imagine I would catch many tonight since they were just stocked earlier today but I snagged two of them. I guess you can tell I have a long way to go to fill my gallon ziplok bag for a decent meal.

You may not have filled up that gallon bag this go-round but that just means that you get to spend more time fishing . What's that they say about a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work ??

A bad day of fishing sure is better then a good day at work. You can only catch 5 trout at a time so I plan on going after I get off work. Good thing I work from home and the pond is like a minute or two away.

I haven't caught a trout in years. I used to do pretty good up in Wyoming using a Thomas "Colorado" lure.

Good job Remman, you better try and get your limit everyday if you can. Those are running just a bit on the small side, but hey if it were me I'd still be happy just to have fun catching them! Trout are a blast to catch.

Re: Trout Time!
They end up dying off in a few months so I still keep the small ones like these.

Looks like bait to me...
I guess it's no different then some pan fish....you need a bucket full to make a meal.
Why do they die off?

Re: Trout Time!
Your right Ken, they will die off when the water gets too warm. Only in the winter is the water cold enough to support trout stocking. They do it here in Missouri on Bush Wildlife Area in about 6 different ponds and lakes. From about late October till February I used to go out to Bush Wildlife Area and catch the heck out of trout.
In the spring fed streams in Missouri the water is a constant 55 deg.F and it will support trout year round so the oppurtunity to catch bigger fish is always there. The average stocking size is about 1 pound average, but I've caught them in the 2-3 pound range on a good day. I've seen some real wall hangers come out of one stream in particular in the 12-14 pound range, that's a real hog!
If I were you, I would keep as many as I could and stick em in the freezer for later.

Well I finally caught my first Utah trout while ice fishing today with some buddies I haven't seen in a couple years. Not the biggest in the world, but bigger than what Ken caught. LOL
Also managed to capture this video of my buddy Joe landing a 23" Cutthroat on 3# test.

our usual ice fishing reservoir has thawed, so we had to drive an hour and a half up to NE Utah where they still have 3' of ice. It was snowing while we were there and its supposed to snow all weekend so the ice will probably grow.

Re: Trout Time!
Now wait a minute Fletch, in that video, his buddy gave that particular trout to someone else. Told him to take it home. Now how do we know since there is no video of bones catching that one, that his buddy did not give it to him and it was someone elses turn to have the other one??
Hmmmmm?
