swaging presses

does this look like a good swaging press to yall??

Honestly...I'd stick with a Rockchucker or at least a Lyman Crusher...they are both made with strong linkage and rams(the RC has a bit heavier handle)...and both press's link pin bosses are heavy duty unlike other presses that pin right up next to the ram.

I am getting ready to order a refurbished Lee Classic Cast to swage on along side my rock chucker..

I am going to have steel linkages made for it so it will be one heck of a swage press. I mean, the body is made from melted down railroad ties, thats got to be strong!! LOL

As far as that pacific, it may be strong enough, I have no knowledge about it, for me tho, I think an O press instead of a C press would be the way to go. More structure integrity is what I am thinking..

yea im gonna make me some steel linkages for mine and try it if it dont work i get il get another press i liek that pasifice id like to have it for resizing rifle brass it has the auto prime arm i could get a tube and use it for resizing and primeing im gonna watch it and see what i can get it for!

lol I agree with everyone. A whole lot depends on how and what you swage. IMO most presses could handle 22cal bullets. but the bigger they get the more pressure is required and the stronger the press needs to be. I know they cost a lot of money. with the exception of Dr. Blackmons press. But really at a little over 400 the walnut hill press is not that far out of line. for example say you get a rockchucker. 150. and you start to swage 44 and 45 cal bullets with it and you break it there is almost half a walnut hill. not saying you will but there is a lot of pressure being developed during swagging and there are plenty of stories out there of Rockchuckers being broken Fore Warned is Warned

The stroke of the ram looks short from the pictures I see. Will you have enough room too work? Over all it seems small, but that may mean its stronger too

that reload ok what is the most common part to fail during swaging the linkages the ram or the frame i know im gonna have to use steel linkages i got some plan to make a set of steel toggles but will the ram and frame hold up? im swaging 45s btw also how much is dr blackmans press?

Dr Blackmon fixed part of the problem with is conversion kit. and that is the collapsing of the t slot on the ram. Richard Corbin says that the linkages are too week even on the RCBS that is why he doesn't offer Reloading press dies anymore. I have even seen pictures of Lee and RCBS presses broken in the O frame.
the catalog I have says 150. for the BSSP press.

Talk to BillArrington he has one I dont know if you can reload on the bssp or if it is a swage only press
you can also save a little money one the sea girt press from Richard Corbin
but you cant reload on it. The walnut hill you can reload on as well as swage and I have to say It is great to reload on too.

Yea the BSSP press is a great price if you plan on using non standard 7/8-14 dies to swage with.

I do plan on in the near future purchasing the BSSP Press. Thinking about soley using the Lee for swaging using regular dies and converting the Rock Chucker for use with blackmon dies. Would like to make a ram and stuff but would prob need blackmons ram and other items to get the measurements and stuff from. Oh the projects we commit ourselves to LOL

put it this way...if you have to stand on the press handle or install a longer cheater handle...you prolly need a a bigger press or somethings going to give.

ok now im confused bssp is blackman right? so corbin dies want work in a loading press? what was the dies that ammosmith had that had the bottom punch that slide in the shell holder wasnt that corbins? also i cant find anything online about bssp can someone send me a link or something?

ammo smith was using CH4d dies same as tommy.
he also has Corbin MFG csp2 mega mite press. different dies and very expensive.
Corbin mfg does sell reloading press dies but they are OMG expensive
Richard Corbin is Dave Corbins' brother. but he has his own company now RCE LLC
Richard does not offer Reloading press dies anymore.

Yep that would work just fine. Prob is, unless your really really lucky, you won't get one for under 75.00 and to get it at 75.00 would getting lucky too LOL...

I don't know how many rockchuckers I bid on before I finally won one that I could afford.

Also, make your search really general, like "rcbs press"....or just "rcbs" under the reloading presses sub-catagory. You'll sometimes come across items with miss-spelling or other errors that doesn't allow them to come up in a specific search....so only a few guys might ever see it

Heck...I've even searched for "rusty" in the reloading presses catagory

hey guys i found a herters superduty press does anyone know if they have the 7/8 x 14 threads and normal shell holder like most modern press use or not i may get it to swage with looks very heavy duty!

never mind i just found out they dont use standard shell holders!

swaging press on E-Bay, look's like a seagate R Corbon brand.

I have a rockchucket press to swage with , i use corbon econo dies 9mm and swaget-it dies 9mm, i also use hurter dies 38 spl / 357 that i have used for years,

thr other day i tryed to put in an old shell holder i used befor in the press and it would not fit, i think the ram has been crushed from high pressure.

I have a set of new rcbs shell holders and thay fit????.

is theare a fix for a crushed shell holder slot. i can still use the dies and punch that i have with no truble,

i have a DR Blackmon 223 setup on order, i know it comes with a new ram, i hope the ram is stronger then the original rockchucker

This is a direct quote from RCBS on line manuel for the RC Supreme or 4 which ever you prefer:

this press will form .30-06 cases into many other calibers.

Now from practcal experience, the left side link failed on mine. Now mind you this was within the first 40 bullets I swaged. I do weigh over 370lbs and was putting a little weight (actually not a lot, wasn't standing just a little extra umph) into it at the time. RCBS replace the link with no questions asked. The guy on the phone sounded truely amazed that I had broke the press and suggested that it may have been dropped at some point but was not insinuating that I dropped it.
