superformance powder Empty superformance powder

Post by mcgarey302 Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:50 pm

Ok so i have a marlin xl7 in 30-06 and love reloading for it. I have used varget powder and had great success. I also bought the hornady superformance factory loads and loved the round, so when i founds the superformance powder on the shelf at cabelas i was more then excited to get a bottle home. But in doing so, i havent found ANY information for the 30-06 yet. ill be using a 168 gr bullet and i have so factory rounds left in 165 gr and was considering cracking one open to weigh how much they put.... but for obvious reasons, i was hoping someone could help me out. thanks Very Happy

I would love to help you myself. The superformance powder data however, is listed in the brand new Hornady Load Data book that I have not been able to purchase as of yet. It is on my list to buy.

I am not sure if someone else here have purchased the new book yet. One other suggestion, if you email Hornady, they will be more than happy to email you load data with that powder for your caliber that you are loading for.

Let us know what you found out. In the mean time, I will email Hornady as well and see what they tell me for ya...

first off do not break open a round and weigh the powder charge and use that as your data. The powder you buy and the powder the mfr uses are most times different. If you need load data and you cant find any email Hodgdon and they will give you data for it. Email Hornady they will give you load data too especially if you are using their bullets.
Good luck

Listen to reload do not break open a factory round and weigh it to get your data . Just stay with the varget until you can get the new book on that round.

The Superformance powder that is available now is only to be used with the 22-250,243win,243 wssm,25 wssm,300 rcm, and 300wsm. They have not released a superformance blend for the 30-06 yet. The way I understand it is a blended powder and you have to use the correct blend for whatever your loading. All the data is available in the 2011 hodgdon reloading magazine/manual.

ok so i got an answer from hodgdon today. they told me that this powder is not being marketed for the 30-06 because they were not able to achieve 75 more fps with this blend. they have several blends used in the hornady rounds and the 30-06 and many magnums, require a different blend. sorry it took so long to right this guys but thaught id post it for anyone interested.

My wife got me the Hodgdon 2011 Reloading Annual magazine at the PX a few months ago and it has an article on the Super Performance powder.

Might be the same info as the PDF document posted in this thread earlier.
