Rock river AR 10 in 308
I need some input, I found a RRA AR 10 in 308 for $1620 nib, is it a good gun ? Is it a fair price? I have never had a evil black rifle but the zombies are getting closer

Seems a little high...But RRA is good stuff imo. Alot of local LE use them.
How about a pic of the model you are interested in...
Is the RRA 308 based on the Armalite AR-10 or the DPMS ? The DPMS design seems to be a little more friendly when it comes to replacement or upgrade parts.

I too have been looking into the RRA LAR-8 series in the last week. The price does seem a little high, but it just depends on the model, they have 6.
Just be aware that AR-10 models do vary over AR-15's for parts interchangeability. http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=451
Personally RRA is my #1 choice for AR's based upon quality and price.

Seems a bit high. Then again it does depend on state I have found when it comes to firearms.
I agree with Bones. I have had 5 AR's and finally settled with my Predator Pursuit.

Why not just save a little more money and buy a FN SCAR?

The 6.8 is interesting for sure.... might be hard to find components for it until it's been around a little longer. Speaking of components... I have a ziplock bag of 6.8 spc brass I picked up at the range....so If you do get one, you are more than welcome to it.

Heck, if your going to go 6.8 spc, might as well step on up to a 6.5 Grendel for the extra long range yardage you would achieve...
Just a thought...

Ok, so maybe it costs a LITTLE more, but you will get so much more out of it. It will function 100% of the time instead of only 50%.
I bet a few people will be out to get me for that one.

The RRA is a good gun. What model is that because that price sounds a tad high. I would go for the Predator or the A4 Varmint. If you plan on doing a lot of shooting in one session I would maybe go for the A4 because it has the heavier barrel and will heat up a little slower. The .308 AR's are heavy though.
I are you wanting this gun as a straight bench/plinker or do you plan on hunting with it? Cost wise it will probably cost you the same price to reload for the 6.8 as it will the .308 so why not go with the more powerful round. The only benefit I see for the 6.8 would be that the gun may be about a pound or so lighter depending on what configuration you go with.

He went down to $1480, I'm going down today to start the paper work and the 10 waiting period. Yes I have other guns but each gun gets it's very own 10 day waiting period, God bless Commiefornia

Re: Rock river AR 10 in 308
During your 10 day wait....start getting the supplies needed and if possible ,get your work up loads ready to be tested.
it feels good to be able to look back and realize that not one factory loaded cartridge has ever been fired out of your gun(except for at the factory ).
I only have two guns that I purchased new and I have never run factory ammo through....and I never will
I 'm guessing the barrel twist rate will be around 1-10"....I'd start with some 168gr SMK's on top of some Varget and go from there....

Re: Rock river AR 10 in 308
get a AR cleaning kit for 308(if it even exists yet)....or a good chamber brush and gas tube brush to go along with your normal cleaning kit.
You only need to worry about 1 pin for cleaning(or 2 pins, if you wanna take the upper off). Push the rear pin out and crack open the receivers....pull the charging handle to free the bolt/carrier assembly and remove it. Clean the barrel form the chamber end(and tube).
Remove the firing pin retainer( looks like a cotter pin) and let the firing pin drop out. Then remove the cam pin, which will allow the bolt head to separate from the carrier for cleaning. You really don't need to take the rifle down any more than that for general maintaining/cleaning.
I use a "firearm safe" spray blasting cleaner to soak down the bolt with to help loosen the carbon. be sure all the gas ports are clear of any debri. I guess one of those new fancy fandango ultrasonic cleaners will work too....
Be sure to put a little lubricant on the bolt head sealing rings on re-assembly. I also recommend a little lube on the backside of the bolt head locking lugs.

Here is a decent field strip/cleaning vid. This is for a AR-15 but it is the same for a AR-10 style rifle.
