all jacketed bullets are swaged. and its pretty soft if not pure they will definitely be ok for swaging.

Post by ar3006 Wed May 02, 2012 12:58 pm

Hi an update on range lead, i tryed to swage some of the lead i mined from my loacl range, the lead was to hard,
not sure if something i did when i melted it or what.

when i cut a piece of the lead the cut piece went fiying across the room like a bullet, maybe i should take my cutters to the rainge.

this is my first time casting anything so meybe it's the way im doing the casting, PLEASE HELP. feedack

Did you happen to melt all the recovered bullets together? I never mix the cast bullets and the jacketed bullets. Don't add any other lead alloys in either...

So far, the lead I have recovered from the jacketed bullets has been soft enough to swage with.

I picked out all cast bullets, i used only jacketed bullets, i have about 45 lbs of lead i melted and about another 15/17 lbs to melt, dont know what i will do with all that hard lead as i don't cast bullets just cores for swaging.

i found some soft lead that my wifes brother gave me and it softer the the range lead.

Thanks for the reply.

If it is too hard to swage with ,I suggest pouing it into ingots and selling it off...then buy softer lead to swage with.
