Question about dies Empty Question about dies

I have a set of 308 dies with a broken decapping rod, so can I take the decapping pin out of my 30-06 die and use it? Since they use the same bullets?

Should be able to.

I did have a problem one time doing that between a 223 and 22-250 though.

Do the dies have to be the same brand? Like do both dies have to RCBS?

No, as long as the threads are the same and the stem mounts the same.

What did you actually break? The pin or the stem/rod? If you only broke the pin and the pin from the other die mounts the same you can interchange them. Now if one of the dies uses a pin with a head on it, it may still work if you can use the expander ball, or you may be able to use the whole stem/rod if your using the same caliber expander ball.

RCBS uses 2 different size decapping pins, and they are not interchangeable. Some of the other brand dies use a pin with a head on them and they will not work on a strait pin mount.

If your in a bind and want to keep working deprime the brass using the 30.06 die, then size with your .308 die like normal. The only difference is your using a different die to deprime. You will still size the same as your .308 die the only difference it it has a broken decapping pin in it.
