So...keeping things in the same context...every cartridge with the ACP designation was originally designed for a COLT automatic pistol?
25acp,32acp,380acp, and the 45acp? All Colts?
I always thought it stood for Automatic Cartridge Pistol.
I looked them all up....all designed by John Browning. He must have been working for Colt at the time because they are all Automatic Colt Pistols.

From what I can tell, the "45 ACP" designation is for the 45 Automatic Colt Pistol. The cartridge was originally called the " 45 Auto" but everyone commonly referred to it as the 45 ACP and the name stuck.

I have noticed some 380ACP that is designated 9mm BrC. From what I have been told it stands for Browning Cartridge. Of course I am also aware of the Kurtz name. I wonder why none of the 45 ever had the BrC name?

From Wikipedia;
"G.A.P. is an acronym for "Glock Automatic Pistol", and the .45 G.A.P. is the first commercially introduced cartridge identified with Glock."
The cartridge is shorter than a regular .45 Automatic (ACP).
