45cal BP sabots in a cartridge load?

I came across some 45 caliber sabots for muzzle loaders and it got me thinking....could these be used in a cartridge? there are two variations....one is for 357 sized bullets and one for 40cal bullets. I'm curious how well these would fly out of my Bushmaster 450.

anyone tried this? I'm guessing they could make good light loads as an alternative to the heavy 250-300gr bullets....and it would be a snap to cast up a bunch of 357 or 40 cal bullets for the use in the sabots.

Not sure but I like the way you think. I had bought sabots for 429 and 451 so that I could shoot my swaged 45's and 44's out of my muzzle loader. Did not get good groupings (for a muzzle loader) tho. I still have some of the sabots left.....

Would be interesting to see what you come up with. How would you develope a load to shoot those in the 450?

well...I guess I could try to mimic the recommended BP load to get around 1800fps with a 180-200gr 40cal bullet....that would be a good starting point I think.

I'm not sure how cost effective it will be at about $8 per 50 sabots....but I have to try...so I can at least say, I tried that once!

Exactly. Like you, I am all about trying different things. You never know when you try that one thing and boom, your on the cuttin edge of technology. It's worth a go....
