Hey guys I'm looking at Barska's website, and they have a 4-16x50mm scope on sale shipped for 99.99. Its going to fit my AR platform nicely, but my weapon is shooting a .22LR round. I like the way this is priced and looks, but that seem like too much scope for a .22lr. I'm trying to hit targets at 150-100yard away. Should I just go with a 3-9x40mm.

Wow, this is a loaded question and will be interesting to see all the different replys. I myself is looking at a scope for my ar which is the .223. I will say that I am shooting at that distance, and I am looking at the 3-9x40 however it is in the center point platform I get at walmart. I currently have 2 Center points 4-16x40 on my Grendel AR and my .270 and I love them so much I very seriously doubt I will ever go with any other glass on the market. The 3-9x40 by center point is around 60 bucks.

Sorry, I know you were asking about the Barska and I should have stuck with the topic without suggesting another brand....

back on topic, the 4-16x50 is a pretty long scope and has some weight to it. The 3-9x40 is much shorter and lighter and in my opinion, I believe would be the better choice for weight and rifle size consideration. I belive that the 3-9x40 in whatever brand you decide (personal perferance) will be plenty for that range of shooting for that caliber of rifle.

This is just my opinion...

I say go for it, you can always put it on something else later. I looked at the Barksa but went with the Vortex Crossfire instead that was also $99.

Personally I don't think you'll get that good of accuracy at 100-150 from a 22LR in an AR platform, but I have been known to be wrong. So I say either go for a red dot for plinking cans at <50 or get your scope so you can try and see where that little round is hitting.

Is your gun an AR-15 in 5.56/.223 and you are putting a .22LR conversion kit in it or is you AR a actual .22LR only gun? A couple other questions are what is the top amount that you want to spend and when you say you are shooting at 100-150 yrds with a .22LR is it just target shooting?

I am sure not all Barskas are like the one i bought for my SKS but it was a total POS. a buck fifty seems like an extremely long distance to shoot a 22lr it can be done for fun I have done it. But not with much consistency. I wouldn't think that even High quality optics which Barska isn't would get you very accurate that far out. But I have been wrong before and will be again.

the 22lr is capable but a slight breeze will really effects the little rounds once they get too far out...

my wife had a barska on her 10-22 but we traded to a bushnell only because the barska seemed dark.... the bushnell was quite bright through the tube....

they were about the same price.... and both functioned well...

I have no doubt I'll have any problems zeroing in at 100 yards. I'm guessing I should be able to hit golf ball circle target. I'm thinking at 200 yards I paper plate should be able to be hit if the wind is not a factor. Thats my goal, may be off the charts, but I've seen my buddy hit penny's at 125 yards away all day long with his cheap little .22 rifle.

That Barska scope is cool... but I don't want a cool looking POS!!!!

I am not saying it will happen to yours and maybe their quality has improved. But I bought one for my sks. After just 5 rounds i coldnt see through it anymore. I thought how the heck did this thing fog up so bad i wiped the lens with a cleaning cloth and the lens fell out in my hand. Yea a total POS but the mount for the sks that came with it was pretty good so I suppose i got half of what i paid for. Good luck.

Look at the Bushnell 3200 line. I have 2. One on my Savage bull barrel target 22 and one on my 10/22. I really like Bushnell and think there great for the money. IMO
