Bullet expansion
Here are some pictures of some lead recovered at the range today. The ones in the red lid are bullets I swaged. The rest are either cast or factory.
The next two pictures are the best of the factory type bullets I found.
The last two pictures are all the rest of the bullets I pulled out. After looking at the way the swaged bullets expanded, the factory are not impressive.

Re: Bullet expansion
I made up some 223 win bullets from 22lr, i wanted to see what kind penetration i would get.
the first pic is the front shot, the second pic is exit, this is after it went through a 4" pice of wood.
could not believe the result
I should have put in the post the phone book was 1 1/2 " thick, the rifel was a Ruger m77 mkII.

Re: Bullet expansion
It probably has a lot to do with the fact that we use dead soft lead and a very thin wall case as opposed to a copper jacket with a consistent thickness all the way down the wall. You need to try to recover a couple of those bullets so wee can see them.

AR, do you have a local newspaper near you? If so see if you can get the roll ends from when they print the paper. Soak 'em over night and shoot into those. That should give you some good results.
