Info on Mauser Action
I bought a beat up bubbafied mauser today. Its already drilled for a scope base, has a forged bent bolt, 2 position safety, & it was bedded into an original (severely hacked up) stock. I only paid 75.00 for it so its no major loss if there is not much i can use.
I'd like to know more about the receiver/action. Apparently its a VZ23. Are there any significant differences compared to a VZ24? Is it suitable to use as the basis of a rifle build project?
Pics are below... Does anybody have any mauser books with any info on this?

might try hitting up Odies Dad on Ammosmith. While doing some research looks like he posts a lot on MauserCentral.com
is it me or does the symbol on the side look like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish symbol?

Re: Info on Mauser Action
What is it that you are looking for?
From what I see, the action looks good but what does it look like under the stock line, any major pitting?
If you just want specifics I can bore you with them all day.

Re: Info on Mauser Action
Xbones, that stamp is a lions head or something... I thought it looked like a frog.
algunjunkie, proceed to bore me with specifics There is no pitting, it physically in great shape. I'm interested in what the difference is between this and a VZ24 or a german K98. Are there any parts interchange problems to be concerned with, or other weak points with this receiver. Odiesdad told me its a VZ22 and its good to go for build a new rifle with.
Thanks

Re: Info on Mauser Action
action alone worth 200 bucks drilled and tapped maybe worth 150
however excellent platform to build a rifle off
best two mausers actions to build off are:
argentine 1909 and
Brazillian 1908
or K98
