Re: Plinking bullets
before i started rolling my own i would buy what ever i could find in bulk the cheapest. WW and Remington sell bulk fmjs pretty cheap. for pistols you can buy the boxes of cast lubed sized bullets reasonable. but a word of caution on those is they will usually be nominal size and you may need a thousandth larger to prevent leading. anyway that is what I did.

Cast!
Or buy in bulk 500rd lots or more if you can. you save more that way. Magtechs, Winchester and Remington fmj are good plinkers...I prefer the Winchester. Sometimes you can find good deals on Hornady's too.

Re: Plinking bullets
For already-loaded ammo, I've had great luck with white box winchester. I also like magtech.
Re: Plinking bullets
I cast for what I can, not rifle, and buy whatever is on sale for the rest. For plinking almost anything will do. I mean as long as it can be loaded at or near normal pressure.

Re: Plinking bullets
For a low cost, I cast my own. If you have a ring of friends nearby that reloads as well, get in on a group buy and get bulk. Hit up Midsouthshooterssupply and grab their blemished bullets from manufactures pretty inexpensive.....

+ 1 on the rainers unless you cast cast bullets are by far the cheapest but if you dont cast rainers are the way to go there cheap and perform flawlessly!RemMan700 wrote:I shoot Berry's and Rainer. I like them a lot.

Re: Plinking bullets
cast your own for the win..... if u have the brass and use bullseye (only need 4 gr for 9mm) @ $110.00 per 8 lbs, primers are $30.00 per k free wheel weights!!!.... i spend less than 4 cents per trigger pull.....

Re: Plinking bullets
Raniers are fairly reasonable as far as bought bullets go and shoot well. I like them. I have bought some mil-spec stuff from Wideners for the 223 that ain't half bad.

Re: Plinking bullets
yeah, in a perfect world, cast your own and you'll save the most money. i thought you meant "what's the best bet" if you have to go buy bullets/rounds
Re: Plinking bullets
I go cheap ,but try different weights always dialing in what the gun wants to shoot. Then I move up to what works best.
