No turkey pictures?
Our season opened here last Saturday, but between high winds, rain, and work, I haven't had any luck. Maybe this coming up week will be better.

Re: No turkey pictures?
I had one talk to me Monday, and then again Thursday but no luck yet. I really didn't expect to do much good as I allowed my property to be logged this winter. but it should be much better next year.

Re: No turkey pictures?
The property I hunt did have 160+ acres cut and 2 or 3 scheduled burns. The number of birds just arent on the property this year.
I didn't get out opening weekend (April 16) but I did get out on Monday and didnt hear or see a thing, Tuesday nothing in the morning then heard a late morning gobble, Wednesday got within a couple hundred yards of a couple gobblers but couldn't zero in on em. Then the weather got really bad. I'll get a couple more mornings in before I have to go home but it looks like they'll skunk me another year.

Yep, same here......we've got close to 7" so far in about 4 days. That's not what's wrong with turkey season here though. I've hunted every single day until the monsoon hit and haven't heard a gobble yet. I've see 4 hens so far and 2 of them came right into my decoys, jabbered a little bit, and kept right on feeding. I watched those 2 hens feeding around in an open field from 7:15am until damn near 11am and not one peep out of a gobbler!
Something is terribly wrong here and I don't know what it is? It's just not natural for hens to be out in the open this time of year without a gobbler somewhere close behind them strutting and gobbling. It's really got me worried.

This weather won't help with nesting. We have had close to 10 inches here in the last wek or so. Turkey numers are way off all ready the ice storm 4 years ago then deep snow the last to yeras have killed alot of birds. I have only been out 3 times this year and like Mo said not much action.

Re: No turkey pictures?
Steve, it's even worse here where I live because for whatever reason the hens don't know how to nest up high enough away from the flood plain. I find nests as close as 50-100 yards from the edge of the river, which when we get rain like this those nests are under about 20 ft. of raging water. Any hens that have already started nesting have probably had those nest swept away already? Unless by some chance they were further up on the ridge away from the flood plain.
It's really sad to say the least. If it keeps this up we won't have any young turkeys this fall and no gobblers for next spring either.
As a matter of fact, while typing this I just heard a rumble of thunder again right over the house. So I guess it's coming yet another thunderstorm.
Damn Rain!!!!!

Re: No turkey pictures?
where is it not raining? Our water tables are so high I can't even use the toilets at work...
Do ya think them darn prospectors are getting in on the weather too? Any mention of the slight possibility of rain...we are damn sure to get it(and lots of it) every time.
No one around here that I know has bagged a turkey yet either.

Re: No turkey pictures?
first it was the wind and rain, then it was the thunder and lightning, then the final straw was the tornados.
first year in 9 years I didnt even see a turkey. I heard a couple hens and a couple gobblers but never seen em. only saw 1 deer too which is very unusual. i think everything is deep deep in the bottoms waiting the weather out.

Re: No turkey pictures?
Sorry you had a crappy trip Bones. That's one thing about spring, it's too unpredictable to make plans for good weather. That always happened to us when we took our spring bass fishing trip to Lake Okeechobee, FL or Lake Fork, TX. The week before we got there was always beautiful and they were catching the monster bass left and right, then the week we were there is was cold, rainy, and caught very few fish. Hell it even snowed one time we were in Texas!! They never got snow where we were, hardly ever, even in the dead of winter! This was in March for crying out loud and 2" of snow fell...........WTF?!?!

Re: No turkey pictures?
Well I reckon for me turkey season this year is a total wash Literally. Got up this morning to go over to my Hunting place and couldn't get there about 2 miles before you get to my place there is about 10 feet of water running over the road. So I reckon there is this fall and then next year. Hope everyone has a better Spring turkey season than I have.

Our hunts in Michigan are broken up into units, and areas and dates. Permits are applied for and awarded by drawings. How are they done where you are? First hunt here, April 18.

Re: No turkey pictures?
there is an open season for spring turkey in Missouri. it opened a little over a week ago. April 18 and goes to May 8. But I believe the numbers are way way down. I have only heard one Tom gobble this year. Normally I hear them all over. Its been a rough couple of years on the turkey here In Mo.
