Solved I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62.

I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62.
I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62. Stuck10

It started as just a stuck bullet. Then it grew to a stuck wooden dowel. So I plan to buy a squib rod from Brownell. I hope my next post is not that I have a stuck brass rod in my barrel. Reminds me of the old lady that swallowed a fly.

try a cleaning rod with jag tip on it. Oil the side you are going to push through to help make it a but easier.

Should I use a jag that is the size of the bore (the rifle shoots .30 Carbine) or one that is a bit smaller?

I would do what Algun said but i would fill it up with Kroil and let it soak a few hours first.

Would Kroil make the wood swell?

Since you cannot pull the wood, fill the bore with Kroil from the non-wood side and store it with the muzzle facing down at least overnight.

I've had Kroil soak into wood, and smoke like a bastich under sustained fire.

If you a long enough drill bit to reach the stuck bullet you can try to drill the center of the bullet out. But be exceedingly cautious of running a drill bit down the bore of the rifle.

I have used my drill press with a very long drill bit and drilled the center of a stuck bullet out. Once the center hole was drilled, the bullet was able to collapse and pushed out easily.

Might try to put a screw in the wooden dowel, and pull it out with an automotive slide hammer.

I now also have a broken jag stuck in the barrel. I musta hit it crooked. I should be able to pull it out with some ViseGrips.

Ok, I have tried that but I used Liquid Wrench instead of Kroil. After several hours it appeared that the Liquid Wrench had soaked through to the wood at the muzzle. And I added more Liquid Wrench at the breech and then drops of Liquid Wrench ran out the muzzle so I am convinced that the Liquid Wrench has soaked through. I am wondering if that is gonna swell the wood and make it harder to remove. Then I tried the jag and got it stuck as noted in my previous comment.

Well I think you might be at the point where you might desire the services of a professional gunsmith.

Are you sure the dowl made it all the way down to the bullet?

What if the dowl is air tight and the bullet is air tight and now your working against a pocket of air to boot?

I'd open the action hang the gun upside down use Kroil soak the bullet.

Then get some screw stock and tap slowly, after the bullet comes out try to pull the dowl out past the action or if you must brake it off as you go.

Just out of curiosity what kind of bullet is stuck in the barrel? I'm wondering if the bullet point split the wood rod causing it to wedge around the tip of the bullet into the barrel. If at all possible when you get the broken jag out can you try blowing air in the muzzle. I don't know if it would work or not but its worth a try. I would think a good rubber tip blow gun and air compressor should push it out.

What caused the bullet to get stuck in the barrel in the first place?

The rifle fires .30 Carbine. The bullet is 110 gr Speer TMJ Round Nose. Here is a page about on the Speer web site:

We don't want to get into that do we? lol! Ok, I tried .7 cc which is about 3.2 grains, of Trail Boss. I am thinking I should have tried at least double that amount. When I pulled the trigger I thought "Wow, that is no louder than a 22!" Then I noticed there was no hole in the target. So I stuck my flashlight in the muzzle and could not see any light at the breech.

I got the bullet drilled out. Now how do I get that wood and Liquid Wrench gunk out of the barrel?
I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62. Liquid10

Details: I tried hammering the brass cleaning rod but it just bent.

I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62. Brassr10

I drilled some holes in some wooden blocks to help act as guides to prevent the brass rod from bending but it still bent instead of progressing.

I gotta wooden dowel stuck in the barrel of my Marlin 62. Withwo10

And the brass rod was not easy to remove. Lots of vise grip twisting and hammering.

So I used a plastic anchor as a drill guide and drilled out the bullet. I got lead in the drill bit groves so I know I drilled the bullet. I hope I did not damage the barrel.

Now I can see just a small glimmer of light through barrel and compressed air will blow through it so that is some progress. But there is so much gunk from the wooden dowel and Liquid Wrench mixture that the brass rod will not go through the barrel. How do I get that gunk out?

So let me see if I understand the situation.

Barrel is still blocked but there is now a hole through the bullet allowing light and air to pass through. There are remains of the wood and brass rod still in the barrel.

Am I understanding this right?

If this is right then your situation has not changed.

You will need/may need:

Small sections of a steel rod that fit the barrel snugly but not tightly. Or rubber coated sections,

a HAMMER,

propane torch

You need a small open section of the barrel, enough to insert a small section of steel rod. Hit HARD with the hammer, big brass cohoonies needed here. Once it starts moving use another section or better yet a longer rod steel rod. Hit again, hard. If you tap it you expand it helping it to seal tighter.

If nothing moves, heat the barrel with the propane and repeat.

The bullet is not out yet.
When I look down the muzzle it looks like the drill has drilled a hole through the bullet - I can see a hole drilled through the bullet and the hole looks about the size of the drill bit and I can see all the way to the firing pin.

The squib rod from Brownells is too short by itself but it has female threads and will accept cleaning rod sections.

But I ruint my cleaning rod on this project before I got the squib rod. I hope to buy a sectioned cleaning rod today.

Since the squib rod fills the barrel much better hopefully it will work. The wooden dowel just splintered and stuck (see earlier posts) and the cleaning rod by itself just bent (see earlier posts).

Hmmm, maybe I should buy a bigger hammer too? All I have is a one pound claw hammer.

instead of ruining another cleaning rod. Buy a piece of threaded rod. small enough to fit in your bore. wrap a couple turns of tape in at least 3 places on the threaded rod to keep it from maring your bore. (its relatively soft it probably wouldn't anyway) but err on the side of caution. then get a hammer and drive it through. Another cleaning rod is just going to bend and break like the others did. You may also try a metal supplier and just get a piece of Drill Rod You are going to need a good piece of steel and a hammer to get this job done.
