Uniforming Rifle Primer Pockets... Empty Uniforming Rifle Primer Pockets...

Post by Rick459 Sun May 15, 2011 8:54 pm

ok here are a couple of photo's of the tool that i use on my lathe and the results. what one is trying to accomplish when using a primer pocket uniformer is to cut the primer pocket square in relationship to the case head so that the primer sits below flush and flat in the pocket. the tool that i use was purchased from Midway about five years ago. i like it better than the RCBS cutters that i have. the tool was hexigon shaped but i turned it down for easier use in the lathe. one end is for large primer pockets and the other side is for small pockets. if any has any questions as i probably left something out...just PM me. HTH and yes that price on the Remington .243 ammo box does say $4.32. tells you how long ago i purchased those.

most case uniforming tools (primer pocket, flash hole, etc) are now designed for use in cordless drills, hence the hexagonal shape of the handles.

I have an old Sinclair neck turning rig that I use. Only round that I need to neck turn at present is my .22 Cheetah Mk1.

I've been looking for a better neck turning set up.

I use a similar tool I also got from Midway a while ago to uniform primer pockets. I chuck mine in a 3/8" drive drill and hold the brass in my hand as I turn the drill slow. It works but is a tad slow. Then I get impatient and torque the drill too much and rip the brass in my hand.

I've been forming .30 and .357 Herrett lately and tore the hell out of my left index finger so I am on the DL right not until my finger heals.

Teach me to wear gloves when I am trying to rough shape such a huge change in thick brass like the RP .30-30 and .32 Win Special I have been using.
